How to Participate: 

This class is hosted online. Once you book, you’ll receive an email with a link and details on how to join. Anyone with the ingredients can participate from their own kitchen.

A guide will be sent prior to the class, please review it to ensure all of your equipment has been gathered and prepared. Please make sure to have your cake iced and chilled ahead of time.

What you'll do:

You will learn the stained glass painting technique on buttercream.

This painting technique is surprisingly simple to achieve and will be sure to impress all your family and friends. Stained glass cakes work beautifully for weddings/celebrations, and will add a very unique touch to any occasion.

This class will run for approximately 2 hours and will cover the basics of:

- Piping line work

- Preparing DIY edible paint

- Painting using watercolor method

What you'll need:

Food Items Checklist:

  • Wilton no.3 piping tip
  • 12-inch piping bag
  • 2-3 small, fine bristled paintbrushes
  • Q tips or paper towel (for dabbing excess paint)
  • 3 small bowls (for mixing paint)
  • Stand/hand mixer (for preparing buttercream)


  • Food grade alcohol (vodka, lemon extract, etc.)
  • Red, leaf green, and teal gel colors (any brand)
  • Powdered sugar
  • Unsalted butter
  • Vegetable shortening
  • Heavy cream
  • Vanilla extract
  • Lemon juice
  • Pinch of salt
  • Black cocoa
Items to be prepared ahead of class:
6-inch cake; baked, filled, and frosted using white American buttercream. This decorating technique will not work well on meringue-based buttercream. 
Chill your cake for at least 4 hours in the fridge before class.
1 cup black buttercream
