This class is hosted online. Once you book, you’ll receive an email with a link and details on how to join. Anyone with the ingredients can participate from their own kitchen.

What you'll do:

In the class you’ll learn how to prepare royal icing.

I’ll show how to color royal icing. You’ll learn how to prepare piping bags for decorating. I’ll guide you through the process of making basic ribbon roses, ribbon ruffled roses, piped roses with petals. I’ll show you how to create 2 tone roses and variegated flower petals.

We’ll talk royal icing troubleshooting, tips, and tricks, too.

What you'll need:

Food Items Checklist:

  • 2 lb powdered sugar and more if needed, sifted if needed
  • 4 1/2 tbsp meringue powder
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tsp cream of tartar  (optional)
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • White Food Coloring (optional)

Equipment:

  • Stand Mixer, measuring cups/spoons
  • Vinegar (optional, to wipe the bowl and tools before making royal icing)
  • Paper towel/kitchen towel
  • Small mixing bowls
  • Spatulas
  • Piping bags
  • 2 petal tips #101 (minimum 1 petal tip #101)
  • Flower nail or a meat thermometer ( one that looks like a nail )
  • Parchment or wax paper squares (cut to about 1.25 x1.25 inch), you’ll need plenty to practice
  • Toothpick
  • Spray bottle/dropper or a spoon
  • Food colors – pink, red or any color you want your roses to be
  • Scissors
